The Philippine men’s volleyball team secured a spot in the 30th Southeast Asian Games semifinals after eliminating Vietnam in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-11 Wednesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Top guns Mark Espejo and Bryan Bagunas powered the nationals early in the first set to keep the team ahead by four, 9-5.
The nationals maintained their lead late in the first set , courtesy of Bagunas and Espejo to end the set, 25-20.
At 18-all in the second set, Espejo took over, leading a 21-18 breakaway.
Helped by several errors from the Vietnam, Philippines won the set 25-21.
Entering the third and final set, Philippines pulled an early 12-2 flurry rendering the 2017 bronze medalists helpless, and sealing the match, 25-11.
The Philippines advances to face Indonesia on Friday.
