EASTERN Washington University isn’t exactly known for its football program, but a product certainly delivered for the newly-minted 2022 National Football League (NFL) champions Los Angeles Rams.
You can now add 2022 Super Bowl MVP and Super Bowl champion to Eastern Washington University Eagles’ Cooper Kupp. The two accomplishments, aside from winning the Walter Payton award in his junior year will only add to his already impressive body of work.
To put things in perspective for this young man who is at the crescendo of greatness, allow me to cite ESPN.com, “An emotional Kupp deflected the spotlight after the win.”
“I just don’t have words,” Kupp said. “I’m just so thankful for everyone.”
“Kupp’s performance put the finishing touches on a stellar postseason in which he set a record for receptions (33) and tied for the second-most receiving yards (478) and receiving touchdowns (six) in a postseason in NFL history.
Kupp caught a touchdown in each of the Rams’ four postseason games, making him the second player in league history to catch a touchdown in four consecutive playoff games, along with former Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald.”
The comparisons with the likes of Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson, and arguably, the greatest of them all, Jerry Rice have already began.
According to SI.com, “I just don’t feel deserving of this,” Kupp said after the game. “God is just so good. I’m just so thankful for the guys I get to be around [with].”
The humility of this young man is off the charts, humility as a result of humble beginnings.
I love Jerry Rice and I’m a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan but I’m going to go out on a limb and say this guy will break every receiving record of the Rams and most if not all of Jerry Rice’s league records after all is said and done.
