LAST week, I shared the general aspects on what to expect for this Year of the Wood Dragon, according to The Yin and Yang Shop of Harmony. The purpose of product standards is to safeguard consumers against low-quality products. They exist not to favor importers or manufacturers, but rather to ensure that both adhere to certain guidelines.
“Life is full of surprises and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure – do it well, enjoy it and then, not now, think about what comes next.”
Growing gross domestic product (GDP) numbers spell economic progress. Leaders across the globe aim to expand their GDP to assure their population that the administration is doing the right thing to uplift the lot of every citizen.
PEOPLE are now saying that San Miguel Beer is undoubtedly back and will become another powerhouse squad to reckon with in 2024. If they should call it as the team’s second wind happening this year, I can, more or less, agree.
EVERY team has a high performing team member. Too often, leaders overlook them in the mistaken belief that since they are high performers, they do not need to be monitored at all. So, instead of leveraging them as partners in helping others improve their performance, they are given more work until they get burned out and eventually quit. If you intend to keep them, you need to take advantage of their drive and high engagement to improve the quality of your team’s output.

In Philippine society, the law mandates retirement. This means that upon reaching a certain age, a person is finished, useless, and unproductive. He should be put to pasture, like a cow that can no longer be milked. Give him incentives like senior citizen discounts and “ayuda” and he’ll be happy and contented.
Fascinated early on with a local healing ritual called “pagbawi” (literally “to get back” or “to recover”), I have, through the years, never stopped trying to understand the process.
Urban restructuring in developing countries through “globalization of cities in the South” is the intermediate economic background of Marco Garrido’s (2019) more than a decade long ethnographical study of Manila communities made up of urban poor settlements and proximate middle-class gated subdivisions.
Since assuming the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Finance in 2019, we have been committed towards strengthening our public health care system. Providing access to quality health care to all, particularly to our disadvantaged countrymen, is one of the most important responsibilities of the government.
It’s not capital, a business degree, connections or name that is essential in launching a business. It is work ethic—and if you got that because of your working-class background, it is even more powerful.
Jurisprudence on labor claims, including those involving Filipino seafarers, can be influenced by the interface of law and economics.
AS I was looking for materials to start the new year, I thought I’d revisit the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost.
CHRISTINA APPLEGATE’S appearance at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Tuesday (Monday evening in the US) was quite moving. Battling multiple sclerosis (MS) since 2021—although doctors have said she might have been experiencing initial symptoms even before then—she bravely walked up to the Emmys stage with a cane, assisted by awards ceremony host Anthony Anderson.
THE clock is ticking fast.
There are several basic Health Screening Tests that everyone should have done regularly, including a Hemogram, Cancer Screening, and a Lipid Profile. At the least, measuring your blood pressure and blood glucose level is something that you can do effectively at home, and with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
There was a report that came out last week stating that Metro Manila now has the distinction of having the worst traffic congestion in the world, according to a study covering 386 cities and made by TomTom, an independent Dutch company that provides navigation and data. The study found out that Metro Manila motorists spent a total of almost five days per year in traffic, spending an average of 25 minutes and 30 seconds to navigate a 10-kilometer stretch, or almost a minute more from last year. The study further revealed a congestion level of 52 percent, meaning that half of the time you spend on the road, you will encounter traffic. This correlates to the economic losses due to traffic that amounts to somewhere around P5.4 billion, according to another study made by JICA.

The members of Congress play a vital role in shaping the laws that govern our nation and directly impact the well-being of the Filipino people. There are actually some states that consider it a crime to fraudulently wear medals, embellish rank or make false claims of military service to obtain money, employment, property or some other tangible benefit. With such a high regard for soldiers who have served their country, it is only appropriate that their integrity is protected.
In one of my articles last year, I mentioned that the core of sales and leadership is one and the same—it’s influence. To effectively sell, one needs to influence another into making a purchase. In the same manner, in leading, one needs to influence another to do what needs to be done. Indeed, influence is the cornerstone of sales leadership.
