“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.” (Jn 3:16)
In his pastoral letter for Lent, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, DD, pointed out that “the Lenten season directs us in a very special way to reflect on God’s merciful and salvific love.” It is, indeed, “the way we came to know love was that Christ laid down His life for us” (1 Jn 3:17).
In a very real sense, during the Lenten season, God is calling us to show our love and compassion to others through charity. As what Tagle also said “charity is the very heart of Christian life. And in this season of Lent, we are especially called upon to exercise charity in our dealings with our neighbor—that is to say, to have a genuine concern for those who are needy and who suffer, and to perform concrete good works.”
In line with what Tagle said about charity, Pondo ng Pinoy is once again launching its Fast2Feed campaign that aims to feed at least 20,000 hungry and malnourished children in Pondo ng Pinoy member-dioceses.
Since its inception in 2005, Pondo ng Pinoy has provided supplemental feeding for about 2 million undernourished children around the country through its Hapag-Asa Integrated Nutrition Program. It has also provided values education, and skills and livelihood training for the parents.
Thus, we are calling all the faithful once again to support the Fast2Feed campaign 2018. As what Tagle said, “Your support will enable Hapag-Asa to continue helping malnourished children. It only takes P10 per day [P1,200 for six months] “to bring back a hungry and undernourished child to a healthy state.”
Let us take the season of Lent as an opportunity not just to repent our sins, but to show our mercy and love to others as what our Almighty God showed his mercy and love by giving his only Son to save us and evangelize us.
The Fast2Feed 2018 Fund Campaign envelopes would be distributed to parishes and schools. Faithful are encouraged to offer the Fast2Feed envelope with their donations during the Mass, or turn it over to the parish office any day after Ash Wednesday.
May God continue to prosper you and bless your generosity and charity.
