Phenomenal all-male music group SB19 has just released its latest song “Gento,” much to the delight of music fans worldwide. The Pinoy Pop group released this song ahead of the scheduled drop of its much-awaited EP Pagtatag scheduled early June. EP means extended play, a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but is shorter than an album.
“Gento” refers to a race or a group of people related ethnically or genetically, and SB19 seeks to show the world the kind of unique artistry it has as Filipinos through this new song. Launched in 2018, the all-male group composed of Pablo, Justin, Stell, Ken and Josh has continued its steady rise and gained global attention with every new song they release.
The latest song and the forthcoming EP are meant to showcase SB19 as it explores new music styles and genres. “As a group, we aim to continue evolving and experimenting, so we can at least be at par with what the world is seeing and listening to and watching. Complacency should have no place in any musical artist or group for that matter, because music continues to take different shapes and forms and depth as we move forward into the future,” explained Justin.
Handpicked and trained by ShowBT Philippines, the members of SB19 continue to spread their wings and some have even released solo singles. Fans rejoiced when Pablo debuted as a solo artist in early 2021 with the song “La Luna,” and later that year Ken, using his real name Felip, followed suit with the song “Palayo.”
Josh joined the fray recently and came out with the single “Wild Tonight.” Choosing a vampire theme for this new song, Josh said he wanted to unleash the fun and wild side of oneself at night. “Not necessarily embracing one’s dark side, but it always feels good to have a sense of liberation from the things and situations that we are so used to. It can also be some kind of an escape from anything that prevents us to be fully ourselves and to be totally free. So it is an affirmation of self-love and self-expression, a journey toward the many realizations about oneself, what we want and what makes us truly happy.”
He added that he wanted to showcase the many aspects of his being a musical artist from music to dance, from rapping to singing, from creative conceptualization to writing the lyrics, creating the melody, even the choreography.
Like their ever loyal fans, popularly known as A’TIN, the other members gave their full support to Josh, the way they also supported the other members who earlier expanded their individual music careers.
Rehearsals have started for SB19’s two-night major concert at the Araneta Coliseum scheduled on June 24 and 25. “We are preparing something bigger than what we’ve ever come up with, and we are all excited to share this with our fans who have remained ever loyal and ever supportive all these years,” remarked Ken. The group has also set their sight on its world tour this July and August. SB19 will be performing in key US cities like Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, and their fans in Canada can watch them in Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Edmonton.
Carry on and wave the Philippine flag wherever you perform. Continue to inspire, create and entertain, SB19. We are proud of you.
