THE Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) was created in 1934 as the government institution mandated to provide funds for health programs and other charities to serve the disadvantaged sectors of Philippine society. Among these disadvantaged sectors are the nation’s elderly.
A BOUT 3,800 graduates and former students of the 62-year-old Jose Abad Santos Memorial School (JASMS), the preschool, elementary and high-school department of the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) in Quezon City, are today united by a single cause: To save their alma mater and maintain its legacy of producing decent, nature-loving human beings. Their collective Facebook account serves as an active platform for news, developments and issues regarding JASMS.
ANOTHER batch of Las Piñas youth, this time numbering 1,263 who graduated from Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Information Technology Training Institute (DFCAITTI), were feted recently and urged to take the national certificate (NC) assessment test for better employment opportunities. Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar congratulated this year’s IT scholars composed of 747 who completed Computer Programming and Hardware Servicing course; and 516 who finished Visual Graphics and 3D Animation.
A FEW years back, the SM Foundation bought an old five-story building at 56 Jupiter Street in Makati City. It used to house small offices, including a photocopy service, a dental clinic and an ancillary permit-issuing section of the Department of Trade and Industry whose international unit is located across the street.

ALBERT MG GARCIA, 66, has always led an active lifestyle. He has been into sports since he was in grade school.
