LONG before Glee and Pitch Perfect, The CompanY was already leading the pack when it came to acapella, jazz, contemporary R&B and vocal pop. In fact, they are a much established recording group with such iconic hits as “Everlasting Love,” “Muntik Na Kitang Minahal,” “Now That I Have You” and countless other songs that millennials would identify as the theme for this favorite local romcom of theirs or that.
With countless industry and sales record awards, The CompanY is indeed an institution in the music industry. They have created a distinct sound that is still going strong
But little do the young ones know that the vocal group is also a force to reckon with in live performances. Watching a show of The CompanY is an explosion, and a cool experience, as well. As cool as the weather we are experiencing now. It combines musical enjoyment, creative genius, vocal excellence and even a boatload of fun.
Currently composed of Moy Ortiz, Annie Quintos, Cecile Bautista, Sweet Plantado and OJ Mariano, The CompanY can sing anything with or without musical accompaniment, and each one holds his or her own vocal role whether lead or backup in razor-sharp five-part harmonizing. Audiences are typically appreciative and enthusiastic from the get-go of all their swinging performances. That is why concert aficionados will be thrilled to know that the premier vocal group is back in the concert scene this Valentine’s Day, as they team up with 1980s icon and the Philippines’s so-called Inspirational Diva Jamie Rivera. Their show is titled Jamie in Perfect CompanY, and will be held at the Music Museum.
“We will be singing our hits, as well as Jamie’s and vice versa, showing our take on each other’s pieces,” Moy shared. That is surely one segment of the concert we will be looking forward to.
Tickets to Jamie in Perfect CompanY are available on Ticketworld and Music Museum.

“WE are constantly motivated with the big picture of success, but we should also pay attention to the small details, because big things happen only when we do the small things right,” shared Francis Kong in his newest book All That Matters: Live. Love. Learn. Laugh from ABS-CBN Publishing.
The inspirational speaker’s latest offering draws attention to small things that matter—family, character, leadership, business, work, self-improvement and life in general—not only to be successful but ultimately to be happy.
Francis emphasized the need to learn the art of life map reading. “Going through the process of traveling the road may be full of humps, lumps and bumps, but in the process, you can also begin to pick up skills, experience, and toughness that will enable you to travel farther and achieve things better,” he said.
On family matters, he stressed that “social media has made it possible for us to communicate and relate with people who are far away from us, but [also] isolate and alienate us from the people beside us. Communicate with your kids. Develop their communication skills and don’t let them waste away on their phones.”
Just like in his previous book under ABS-CBN Publishing, Leadership That Matters, the author also touched on managing people in the workplace or business in All That Matters.
He distinguished motivation from inspiration, saying, “To motivate is to push them to do something. To inspire is to pull them to the realization that a change or a transformation would be good for them.”
Meanwhile, in order to be happy in life, Francis suggested to maintain distance from whiners.
“If we cannot help and the whiner refuses to be helped, then we simply must maintain distance and not allow negativity to poison our healthy minds,” he writes, pointing out that exposure to nonstop negativity may impair brain function.
“Life is 90 percent beautiful with only 10 percent that is not. And there is so much out there to be positive about,” the speaker enthused.
All That Matters by Francis Kong is available in National Book Store and Powerbooks branches for only P395.
