Jeremy Scott’s collection for H&M, Moschino [tv] H&M, can best be described as loud, proud and flashy. The capsule collection, which launched in the
Philippines last week, evokes the flashy 1990s with lots of gold, animal prints and sequins. Oh, and did we say gold?
Gold is everywhere, from the bag chains to the earrings and necklaces. There’s a pair of silver sequined pants that would have looked right at home in the clubs of the 1990s but would still look perfect today.
“Whenever I design, I think about my friends. The Moschino [tv] H&M lookbook is like a party—celebrating the fun, the pop, the creativity and the energy of the people and the collection,” said Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino, in a press release.
“I love how Jeremy captures the spirit of Moschino [tv] H&M in the lookbook. This is a loud and proud collection for everyone to share in the fun, no matter who you are or where you are from,” said Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s creative advisor, said in a press release.

H&M collection for the lookbook are, among others, Aquaria, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10; Amiaya, twins and influencers Aya and Ami; Sakura Bready, Jeremy Scott’s assistant at Moschino; and Pablo Olea, Jeremy’s best friend and head of Global PR and Communications of Moschino.
For the Philippine launch, H&M hosted a shopping party the night before the retail launch. Shoppers who lined up got dibs on the collection. They were divided into several groups, with each group given 10 minutes to choose their items.
Another collection (this time for beauty) that I recently got to try was the MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss collection. Yes, I know that I have a lot of lipsticks but anything new from MAC still excites me and that’s a good thing, right?
The concept behind Powder Kiss is that if you find matte lipsticks drying, these offer the matte finish everybody loves without the drying effect. The texture is very light that it seems you aren’t wearing lipstick at all.
“Matte, totally reinvented. Delivering a romantic blur of soft-focus color, this
weightless moisture-matte lipstick was developed to replicate a backstage technique: blending out edges of matte lipstick for a hazy effect. Its groundbreaking formula contains moisture-coated powder pigments that condition and hydrate lips. The result is the zero-shine look of a matte lipstick with the cushiony, lightweight feel of a balm,” said MAC Cosmetics in its web site.
Here’s what I thought of the lipstick after using it for two weeks. I have the shades Influentially It (beige) and Shocking Revelation (a cool red):
- The texture is really light. But on me, it goes on like a light satin lipstick, then becomes powdery matte after a few minutes.
- MAC Powder Kiss has been compared to Sunnies Face Fluffmate lipsticks. They’re actually very different in texture. Fluffmate is still very lipstick-like in terms of coverage while Powder Kiss is really very lightweight.
- MAC Powder Kiss is perfect for those who want the gradient/blurred lip popularized by Koreans. I wear Best of Me first then I apply Shocking Revelation on top of that. I once tried Shocking Revelation on top of concealer (MAC Prolongwear) and it worked, too, except it was a bit drying.
- Devoted to Chili is my favorite shade and I’m buying it. In fact, I need two or three tubes. The MAC web site describes it as a warm copper but on me, it looks like MAC’s Chili lipstick except it is more “diffused” in terms of coverage. I heard that this shade sold out in China in, like, a day.
- MAC Powder Kiss wasn’t really moisturizing on me but it wasn’t drying, too. I really don’t need my lipsticks to be moisturizing for two reasons. One is that my lips are chronically dry, thanks to all the lipsticks that I wear everyday. Two, I wear a really good lip balm (La Mer) plus I use MAC Prep + Prime Lip so I’m covered in the moisturizing department.
