KNOWN as the Mitsubishi Strada in the Philippines, the new Triton is the fifth-generation pick-up truck that will be launched in other ASEAN markets as well as Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Latin America. It will eventually be sold in 150 countries all over the world.
The Triton, which is also known as the L200 wears a significantly bolder look, a revitalized design under the concept “Rock solid” that embodies both inside and out. This new pickup was developed to exemplify the Engineered Beyond Tough key phrase, which underlined its creation. Mitsubishi created a more powerful styling that incorporates the latest iteration of the dynamic shield front design concept; an enhanced 4WD system that delivers improved off-road performance; and the latest in active safety and driver assistance systems.
“The new Triton is one of our most important global strategic models. Its success will accelerate the momentum of the company’s sustainable growth. The new model brings enhancements to the durability, reliability and comfort developed over the 40 years since the introduction of the series,” said Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko.
The new Triton has newly sculpted body curves with contrasting sharp lines, extended wheel flares and bright accents, which add modernity to it. The front has slimmer bi-LED headlights with stylish daytime running lights. Both units are connected seamlessly to a brand new dual-bar radiator grille. Below the grille are halogen fog lamps and turn indicators.
Inside the Triton expresses modern and robust feeling with frame surroundings for the switch panel and air outlets. A high-quality look is created by soft pad materials and stitching on the floor console, armrests and parking brake.
The Triton has a new smartphone tray with USB ports below the central switchgear, and the cubbies are garnished in a new satin silver trim.
Two variants are being offered—the 2.5 liter, four-cylinder turbodiesel, tuned to produce anywhere from 107 hp and 200 N-m to 134 hp and 324 N-m of maximum torque. Higher-spec models get the latest 4N15 2.4 liter MIVEC turbodiesel, which produces 179 hp at 3,500 rpm and 430 N-m of maximum torque from 2,500 rpm.
