THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has renewed its call for local voters to elect only deserving candidates for positions in barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to ensure good local government officials for the next two years.
In a news statement, Interior Assistant Secretary for Capacity Development, Public Affairs and Communication Jonathan E. Malaya said voters should vote for the candidates who are “sensible, skillful and reliable.”
Malaya repeated what Interior Officer in Charge Eduardo M. Año had said more than a month ago about the qualities of the barangay government and SK officials who should win in the elections.
Malaya, who also served as the DILG spokesman, said the department “has come up with a guide which is a checklist of traits that the [voters] should look for in choosing their [preferred] barangay and SK candidates.”
The DILG’s campaign for these three characteristic are in line with the department’s pursuit to have government officials who will observe and practice good local governance.
