NOTING the life-saving skills they provide to the swimming public in areas like pools and beaches nationwide, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has released training regulations for lifeguards.
This is to ensure that lifeguards are trained and have the proper knowledge and ability to manage a possible victim prior to and upon arrival of the health response teams. In line with this, the Tesda released the “Implementing Guidelines on the Deployment of Training Regulations [TRs], Competency Assessment Tools [CATs], Assessment Fees for Lifeguard Services NC II at Lifeguard Services NC III.”
This following the approval by the Tesda Board of the TRs for lifeguards in swimming areas nationwide. The TRs are formed with the assistance of the Philippine Life Saving Society.
The TRs for the Lifeguard Services NC II and NC III are now included among the courses being offered under the technical vocational institutions accredited by the Tesda.
”It’s time we put in place a lifeguard training course knowing how beaches and pools are very popular in the country,” Tesda Director General Guilling A. Mamondiong said.
“With a certified lifeguard around, swimmers are not at risk,” he added.
The Tesda chief added: “New and existing training programs registered under the New Training Regulations, or local government unit/industry/other government programs relating or leading to Lifeguard Services NC II and Lifeguard Services NC III shall be covered by this circular.”
In order to ensure that the TRs are implemented, Mamondiong directed all the Regional/provincial directors to conduct registration and reregistration for the program. The assessment fee for the Lifeguard Services NC II is P660 per candidate and P670 for Lifeguard Services NC III.
