Athletes are at the forefront of the American sleep expert Tempur’s latest international marketing campaign, called “This Sleep Is Power.” Multi-Grand Slam tennis superstar Serena Williams has been launched as the face of this movement, while local sports personalities, such as Christine Jacob-Sandejas, Chris Tiu, Clarice Patrimonio and several members of the Philippines Volcanoes rugby team have joined her as Tempur ambassadors in the Philippines.
“[Serena] has been a Tempur user for over 10 years,” shared Simon Walsh, senior vice president of Tempur-Sealy International Inc., during a recent press event at the Tempur showroom in Ayala Malls The 30th. Walsh added, “The campaign demonstrates the unique power of quality sleep, which really has helped fuel Serena in terms of the ability to recover from training.”
This Sleep Is Power was first launched in the United States in May 2017, with the aim of elevating the conversation about how quality sleep, especially among athletes, ensures that the body performs at optimum levels.
The National Sleep Foundation, a US-based nonprofit organization that promotes public understanding of sleep, emphasizes the importance of the Rapid Eye Movement phase of sleep. It’s said to provide energy to both the brain and body and releases hormones that help in muscular recovery and regeneration. It’s also thought to be involved in the process of storing memories, learning, balancing your mood and helping you focus during your waking hours. Hence, when sleep is cut short, the body doesn’t have time to repair and consolidate memory, as well as release hormones.
Recognizing this, Tempur has launched four new distinct mattress collections that are available in the Philippines through the company’s exclusive distributor, Focus Global Inc. “This range was [introduced] in the Philippines in October. It has very unique features compared to our previous ranges,” Walsh said.
The Original Collection is designed for a firmer feel, and highlights the core benefits that built the Tempur name around the world.
The Cloud Collection features a top layer that is especially developed with Tempur’s Extra Soft Material, to instantly cushion and hug your body. It makes for a soft mattress that also has good support. There is also the Sensation Collection, designed for ease of movement and weightless comfort, while the Hybrid Collection is a reinvention of the classic Tempur mattress.
Tempur is the only mattress and pillow brand licensed by the US Space Foundation to use the Certified Technology Seal. Its products are made from visco-elastic, pressure-relieving and temperature-sensitive material that adapts and responds to every body shape and sleeping position, weight and temperature. As testament to the quality of the Tempur brand, local ambassadors have also joined in the Tempur campaign to talk about how a good night’s rest helps them in their lives and careers.
CNN correspondent and 1983 Southeast Asian Games representative Christine Sandejas shared that, as an athlete, a mom and a career woman, she puts a premium on the power of sleep. “It is one of the most neglected aspects in life, whether you’re an athlete or not. It’s part of how we function properly, more so if you have more stress on top of your daily grind, such as being an athlete or having to wake up early for your job,” Sandejas shared.
Aside from his basketball career for both the professional league and the national team, and as an entrepreneur and showbiz personality, PBA Rain or Shine’s Chris Tiu has to juggle work with parenting duties now that he’s a dad. Tiu uses Tempur pillows to help him achieve quality sleep, he said. “It really makes a difference, because it is the perfect contour for my neck. I’ve never felt as comfortable with any other pillow and I don’t wake up with anything aching in my neck or shoulder area,” Tiu adds.
Tempur currently has six stores in the country, and another one is set to open by the first quarter of 2018.
“Twelve years ago, nobody here knew what Tempur was all about. Our first home opened in 2005 in Edsa Shangri-La and it’s still the biggest among our stores at 240 sq m. We have recently opened two stores in the last two months: one is in Vertis North and one is here in Ayala The 30th,” Focus Global Inc. Founder and President Stephen Sy shared.
