Histories and Horizons: The Metropolitan Museum of Manila Permanent Art Collection highlights the museum’s collection of contemporary works, which includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, assemblages, some photographs and a couple of video art. This exhibit looks at histories, not as a concluded past but as interpretations of events that occurred in the past that continue to influence the present. The narratives and discourses are many and multilayered, hence histories rather than a singular history.
In examining histories, we are also steered toward horizons of what are becoming imminent and apparent, of notions of limits and, at the same time, potentials.
Also, Annie Cabigting: When we look at art…features 65 photorealistic paintings of people looking at art. The exhibition starts at the Groundspace and occupies the entirety of the second floor galleries. In the series of paintings on show, Cabigting investigates the ways art is experienced, reenacting your perspective as a viewer appreciating art with other viewers. It will be on view until April 13, 2024.
