The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is expected to finally pass its Election Code before the end of year.
The Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace Process, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) said the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) chief Murad Ibrahim has made the commitment to prepare for the BARMM elections in 2025.
“They are very confident that they will pass the election code before the end of 2022 in order for us to prepare for 2023 and 2024,” OPAPRU Secretary Carlito G. Galvez said in a virtual press conference last Wednesday.
He said they are confident the Bangsamoro Election Code (BEC) will be passed on time since its draft.
The first ever election of BARMM was originally scheduled on 21 Sept. 2022.Its conduct was synchronized with the conduct of the 2025 National Elections by Republic Act. No. 11593 due to the still pending BEC.
The BTA said the completion of the BEC was delayed due to the lockdowns caused by the pandemic.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) said the BLC will determine the number of elective posts in the Bangsamoro polls.
After the completion of the BEC, Galvez will then push for the completion of its local government code, local government code, revenue code, and indigenous people code.
