THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Women in Sports program will start accepting nominations on October 1 for the Gintong Gawad Awards 2021.
The award is a national search for women for their ground-breaking, inspiring, notable, timeless and outstanding contribution to grassroots sports.
“We are happy to finally recognize and pay tribute to remarkable achievements in sports of women and of outstanding initiatives for women in the communities throughout the country,” PSC Chairman William Ramirez said.
“Through the years, we have witnessed the continuing recognition of excellent performances in elite sports, but none so far yet for those in the grassroots, particularly women,” Ramirez said.
The PSC, Ramirez said, is enforcing the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act (Republic Act 10699) which provides benefits and incentives for national athletes who emerge victorious in international competitions.
“There is also the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame (Republic Act No. 8757) which immortalizes Filipino sports heritage and honors remarkable performances of Filipino athletes, trainers and coaches,” he added.
Gintong Gawad, the PSC chairman said, is a milestone initiative that will inspire community-based athletes, coaches, sports leaders, benefactors, sports scientists and innovators to continue helping in the development of women in sports.
This year’s Gintong Gawad invites provincial government units and Metro Manila mayors to send their best entry up to the nomination deadline on November 30.
There are eight categories in the awards—Babaeng Atleta, Modelo ng Kabataan, Babaeng Atleta ng Kabataan (PWD), Babaeng Tagasanay ng Isport, Ina ng Isport, Lider ng Isport sa Komunidad, Kaagapay ng Isport sa Komunidad (benefactor or sponsor), Natatangi at Makabagong Produktong Pang-Isport and Proyektong Isport Pang Kababaihan.
