As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Formed in 2018, Fighting Monday is a six-piece band from Manila composed of young professionals brought together by their love for music. It all started with every member of the band looking at music as an outlet for self-expression, and to release stress from their respective day jobs, which later on became their passion.
Composed of Camilla Bontogon on vocals, Chester Lopez and Merick Calara on guitars, Leozandro Leonardo on bass, Halbert Guitang on keyboards and Sam Puzon on drums, the band attributes their sound to diverse genres that include local and foreign alternative rock, jazz, blues, and jap rock. So far, the band has released two singles now streaming on Spotify: “Limerence” and the song they submitted to SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine, “Effervescence.”
Chief songwriter Chester Lopez, an alumnus of the PhilPop Songwriting Bootcamp says “Effervescent” is about “second chances” and “describes the ecstatic feeling after knowing that you actually had a chance with someone before.” Check out Fighting Monday’s ECQ performance of this engaging ditty, which as its title suggests is indeed utterly effervescent.
