As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
Bo Young is a Bohol-based band composed of April Lyn Remolador on vocals, Richard Bhern Lagroma on guitars, Anthony Dabalos on drums, John Philip Quinga on keyboards and Michael Jerus Basio on bass.
Formed in 2014, the band was originally called Boyang as a result of a nickname given to April by Milo Miranda of the band, Brownbuds. They later changed Boyang to Bo Young.
Over the years, they have developed their own sound influenced by several music genres including rock, pop, jazz, and a little bit of reggae. In their own words, Bo Young’s music is “uplifting, soulful, funky — and happy.”
From covering other people’s songs, the band eventually found the confidence to create their own music with songs that are largely based on their experiences and feelings. They admit that since they do a lot of experimenting, their music is not easy to identify with any genre, and “the only way to understand [Bo Young] is to simply press play.”
Headlining this edition of SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine, Bo Young is performing their newly-released single, “Changes.” The song as the title suggests is about expressing how people need the word “change” to be better individuals.
“The song ‘Changes’ was the very first song we’ve written with so much pain. Knowing a lot of people suffered from selfishness and ungrateful minds. We dedicated the song to those people who forgot how life works. The only key to self-improvement is the word change,” the band further explained.
With its refreshing island rhythms vibe, it’s hard to resist Bo Young’s invitation to change through their song. “Changes” is now available for streaming at Spotify and other digital platforms
