The Commission on Election (Comelec) will be setting separate proclamation ceremonies for senators and party list groups.
This comes after Comelec en banc sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) nears the completion of the canvassing of all of the 167 Certificate of Canvass (COC) from the 2019 midterm elections.
As 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the NBOC already acted upon 121 COCs.
“We don’t want anyone to steal anyone’s thunder so to speak. It was a jarred fight in the elections and each category deserves their own event,” Jimenez said.
The poll official said they announce the proclamation dates to the public as soon as it is finalized.
He said it is likely they will be scheduling the proclamation of the winning senators ahead of the winning party lists since they would still have to determine the allotted number of seats for latter.
The number of seats to be given to each winning party lists will vary depending on the number of votes the said groups will get.
“With the party-lists, we still have to complete the computation. So the process is longer. Maybe three days apart,” Jimenez said.
During the 2016 elections, Comelec also separated the proclamation ceremonies for senators and partylists.
