NICKEL-MINING companies belonging to the Philippine Nickel Industry Association Inc. (PNIA) have joined relief efforts for people affected by the eruption of Mayon Volcano in the province of Albay.
The PNIA was joined by the Land Rover Club of the Philippines, Anseca Development Corp., MRMJ Earth Movers Corp., IPM Development Corp. and RONIN Motorcycle Club in sorting and packing the goods, as well as provided logistics support in conducting relief operations for Albay, a statement released by the group said.
Over P1.4 million worth of goods were provided by PNIA and its partners and packed into 1,000 hygiene kits and 2,250 food packs.
The association also donated slippers, bath soaps, face masks, antibiotics, children’s vitamins and sacks of old and new clothes that will benefit 19,000 displaced families or 75,000 individuals.
A team composed of PNIA and Land Rover Club Philippines representatives went to Albay last week to transport and personally hand over the relief goods to the provincial government of Albay, along with the regional representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
PNIA President Dante Bravo said the association has been actively doing collective efforts in providing aid to victims affected by calamities and disasters.
“We express our heartfelt sympathies to the displaced communities brought by the continuous eruption of Mount Mayon, and the association is ready if additional assistance shall be needed for our fellow countrymen in Albay,” he said.
He added the entire mining industry will always be ready to help the country during times of need, as well as support government initiatives geared toward sustainable development and nation building.
“The Philippine Nickel Industry Association reiterates its commitment to participate in programs of [the] government, especially during calamities and disasters,” Bravo said.
The PNIA is composed of Global Ferronickel Holdings Inc., CTP Construction and Mining Corp., Citinickel Mines and Development Corp., Carascal Nickel Corp., DMCI Mining Corp., Marcventures Mining and Development Corp. and Agata Mining Ventures Inc.
PNIA is a nonstock and nonprofit organization established in 2012. It aims to foster a strong partnership between the government and the private sector in revitalizing and developing the nickel industry in a manner that balances economic, environmental and social objectives.
PNIA believes in responsible and sustainable mining and giving back to the communities that have entrusted the care of their land to mining companies.
