LIGHTHOUSE Club Manila, rooted from one of the oldest British charity organizations, recently held its annual charity ball to sustain its various projects in the country.
With the rodeo-themed event, Lighthouse Club Manila Vice Chairman Guenter Taus said they were able to raise funds for the education of construction workers’ children in the country.
“It is nationwide, and we get nominees from different sectors. It goes through our welfare committee. We look at those who are most needy,” Taus said.
Lighthouse Club Manila is currently supporting 35 students from kindergarten to college students.
For this school year, the club took on seven new students, including a girl who lost her eyesight due to eye cancer.
For 2014 two of its scholars graduated from college and another two graduated from high school.
During the charity ball, Lighthouse Club Manila auctioned items, including a five-course dinner for eight at the VIP Skybox of Marriott Hotel Manila; Louis Vuitton bags; Manny Pacquiao hoodie, shorts and figurine; Barcelona Football Club 2015 limited-edition jersey; The Masters champions-signed golf flag; and a U2-signed 3D box with fender electric guitar.
Lighthouse Club Manila also does community-based development projects, including school and hospital renovations. It also donates goods, services and financial support to other projects in the country.
It also provides medical support on specific needs basis, including a recent kidney transplant for an unnamed woman and the 12-month medication for a Leighton Contractors engineer who was diagnosed with the Cushings Disease.
Aside from the annual charity ball, Lighthouse Club Manila holds monthly events in support of its projects.
The club currently has 62 member-companies from construction and allied industries. It is part of the Lighthouse Club Asia Pacific, a regional organization that seeks to unify clubs in the region.
