The Philippines is seeking bids to develop a $400- million water source for the capital Manila, one of $1.1 billion worth of water projects being lined up for auction by the government.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has given bidders until November 17 to submit applications for the Kaliwa Dam project, it said in a newspaper advertisement.
The development is expected to cost P18.7 billion ($417 million), according to the government’s Public-Private Partnership Center web site.
Kaliwa Dam would reduce the capital’s dependence on the Angat Dam reservoir, initially increasing its water supply by 600 million liters a day and then by 1.8 billion liters a day in the longer term, according to the MWSS.
Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of the capital’s water requirements, or about 4 billion liters a day, delivered by Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. Inc., according to the MWSS.
