As part of BusinessMirror’s campaign to promote everyone’s safety and well-being during the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited established and independent artists to perform at least one song in their own homes while urging everyone to stay indoors.
SB19 is the first P-POP (Pilipino Pop) boy group trained under a Korean entertainment company. By taking the K-pop formula and making it entirely their own, SB19 has become a big hit with music fans not only from the Philippines but even those based in, yes, South Korea.
Composed of Justin, Sejun, Ken, Josh and Stell, SB19 underwent three years of training with ShowBT, a Korean entertainment company that opened a Philippine arm in 2015. Composing their own songs and choreography are included in their intensive training.
On the strength of just three hit singles, “Alab (Burning),” “Go Up” and “Tilaluha,” SB19 has racked up phenomenal numbers on streaming channels like Spotify (over 115,000 monthly listeners), video-sharing sites like YouTube (over 923,000 subscribers) and social media networks like Facebook (over 654,000 followers).
For their special SoundStrip Live & in Quarantine session, the boys are performing an exclusive “home” version of their latest single, “Ikako,” Released only last May 15, the official video of the song has already generated over 242,000 views on YouTube.
The boys told SoundStrip that they are dedicating “Ikako” to “all the brave frontliners who risk their lives everyday to combat this pandemic.”
