Boracay Island—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force, urged hundreds of fire dancers in this resort island to just use LED lights or poi, instead of real burning fire.
DENR Undersecretary Benny D. Antiporda announced this during a news conference here as the task force prohibits fire dancing in the resort island of Boracay.
Boracay, considered as one of the best island in Asia by the Condé Nast Traveler, will be reopening to tourists by October 26. This, after the national government ordered its closure on April 26 to undergo environmental rehabilitation.
“Fire dancers can use technologies such as LED lights but the task force definitely prohibits fire dancing. The national government can support the displaced fire dancers in Boracay if they needed,” Antiporda said.
