Historical reenactors belonging to the Republica Filipina Reenactment Group (RFRG) and the Philippine Living History Society (PLHS) portrayed Filipino freedom fighters in the recent civic-military parade in celebration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence held at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park.
The RFRG reenacted the Katipunan sandatahan fighters, and the Ejercito Filipino (Philippine Army) led by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo which took part in the declaration of independence in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898.
Meanwhile the PLHS recreated the 41st Division of the Philippine Army headed by Gen. Vicente Lim, which displayed uncommon valor in the early months of the Second World War in Bataan and various parts of the archipelago.
The reenactor groups were joined by Banda Matanda 1888 of Gen Trias City, the fifth generation of marching band musicians whose ancestors performed the national anthem during the 1898 Independence proclamation,
The RFRG is an association of history aficionados which seeks to recreate military history during the Revolution against Spain and the Filipino-American War. The Group is also a partner of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the National Parks Development Committee, Intramuros Administration, and various civic organizations and local government units in reviving significant events through living history initiatives.
