PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Noli Eala reassured his organization’s support for the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in a meeting with the league’s officials at the PSC offices on Friday.
UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag and Season 85 President Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, of host Adamson University paid Eala a courtesy call and got Eala’s support for the league’s intention to have a full calendar in the coming season.
“I’m excited. We already miss the UAAP with all the drums,” said Eala, an alumnus of Ateneo which is one of the eight members of the league. “(Last season), I watched the last few games of Ateneo, the last few games of La Salle, and the Final Four. I missed the championship because I was out of town.”
“I’m very happy to support the UAAP. I don’t know how, but in our facilities, of course, are always welcome to help you,” he told the UAAP officials.
The UAAP has been using various PSC facilities in its events for the longest time. These are the PhilSports oval in Pasig City, Rizal Memorial football stadium, swimming pool, badminton hall and tennis complex and the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The UAAP will hold basketball games at the Philsports Arena on October 5 and Suan said they will also request for the same facility for the volleyball competitions next year.
“I’m happy because what was supposed to be a simple courtesy call turned out to be a sharing of thoughts—just listening to the chairman really talk about sports was enriching,” Saguisag said.
