Familiar yet different: One-Michelin Star resto, Putien at the Podium

‘Bian Rou (Wanton) Soup’ is a Fujianese specialty with more than 500 years of history. PUTIEN spares no efforts in keeping this precious craft originated in Chinese imperial dynasty of Qin.

One-Michelin Star restaurant, PUTIEN, opened its first branch in the Philippines on November 15, at The Podium in Mandaluyong. It was named after the founder’s hometown, Putian City, a coastal suburb in the province of Fujian in China. The now global chain began as a coffee shop on Kitchener Road in 2000, and has been awarded a One-Star Michelin since 2016.

Putien is a Singaporean restaurant that puts the spotlight on Putian food and ingredients. In Putian, a city in the eastern Fujian province of China, they use a lot of seaweed, abalone, and fruits such as pomelos, lychees, and longans in their everyday meals.

Putian is also known for its Putian or Henghwa cuisine, a style of Fujianese cooking that uses a lot of fresh seafood that is easily available in the coastal city. With seasonal food festivals that take place when the ingredients are at their freshest, PUTIEN continues to serve only the freshest.

What’s so special about Fujian cuisine is that it’s lightly flavored, but what gives it its distinct taste is its use of various ingredients from the surrounding mountainside and sea. It also uses a lot of foraged spices and ingredients while maintaining a light and clean flavor.

Food lovers can enjoy their mouthwatering noodles like the fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon, the Mazu Mee Sua or indulge in their awesome PUTIEN Lormee, a homemade pulled noodle that’s firm and chewy to the bite, soaked in laboriously cooked broth boiled for 9 hours to achieve its taste.

Deep Fried Pork Trotters w/ Salt and Pepper is one of PUTIEN’s Signature dishes.

Savory dishes such as the Cereal Prawn, succulent prawns deep fried to golden crisp with egg floss, sliced chilli, curry leaves, and cereal, will also delight food lovers. Also exceptionally delish on top of the list are the Deep Fried Pork Trotters w/ Salt and Pepper, Pork Ribs, Crispy Oyster, and the sweet and sour pork with lychees. Their spinach with salted egg and century egg and Stir-fried Chilli Clams are also a must-try.

Not to be missed is their PUTIEN Style “Bian Rou” Soup (Wanton), a Fujianese specialty with more than 500 years of history. Its delicate Fujian-style wonton wrapper is made of pork meat. This is perfect for the cold weather!

Stirfried Yam. Yam is an unmistakable ingredient to satisfy the sweet tooth. Putien’s signature dish Stir-fried Yam is made with the middle and best portion of premium yam.

And of course, save the best for last with their best desserts: Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with Fruits, Stirfried yam, Chilled PUTIEN Loquat and their delicious Glutinous Rice Cake with Sesame and Grated Peanut. PUTIEN is located at the 5th level of The Podium.
