THE newly appointed general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has vowed to enhance the safety and security of passenger terminals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).
MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong said he had already requested two of the area managers of the premiere aviation facility for a briefing on safety and security, saying this is the most important part of the pending US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) assessment.
The initial briefing on airline concerns started on August 11 and runs until August 19. Cargo handling companies, TSA and other officials from the US Embassy and Office of Transportation Security participated in the briefing.
Results of the planned assessments will be announced on August 19, said Chiong.
During the course of initial inspection, Chiong, however, noted the lack of lighting facilities at the departure area of Naia Terminal 2.
He had also recommended the upgrade of air-conditioning systems and Wi-Fi facilities of terminals ahead of the expected surge passengers at the airport terminals.
Under his watch, Chiong said he would manage the day-to-day operations of MIAA with transparency and accountability.
With his 33 years of experience in the aviation sector and the support of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Chiong vowed to deliver his best to improve the operations of the country’s premiere aviation facility.
