Two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) were found dead inside their room in Dubai on July 27, an OFW advocate group reported on Tuesday.
The wife of one of the two workers reached out for help to Ronald “Bong” Concha of nongovernment organization Kaagapay Ako ng Bawat OFW. She said her husband sustained slashes on his neck. Another OFW fatality, who was also inside the same room, apparently also sustained neck wounds.
The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed the incident and conveyed its “deep condolences to the family” of the two OFWs.
The identities of the two OFWs were withheld at the moment.
Concha said the company that employ the two OFWs in Dubai have not informed the family of the incident.
“Sana po mabigyan ng hustisya ang pagkamatay ng asawa ko,” the OFW’s wife, said, sobbing in a video posted on TikTok’s account of Concha @ka_bong_concha. “Pumunta sya sa Dubai para bigyan ng kinabukasan ang anak namin. Sana makulong kung sino man ang pumatay.”
The wife also sought the help of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) office in Tacloban City.
The Embassy said the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai is coordinating with law enforcement authorities of the United Arab Emirates to “ensure that justice would be served.”
“As of the moment, UAE authorities are unable to provide details regarding the ongoing investigation. Likewise, the Consulate and the OWWA Office in Dubai have gotten in touch with the family, reassuring them that the Philippine Government shall provide necessary assistance as they grieve the loss of their loved ones,” the Embassy said in a statement released to Filipino media in Dubai.
