CARLO BIADO teetered but got his rhythm back in time to nip Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski, 11-10, and advance to the quarterfinal round of men’s 9-ball of billiards on Thursday in the World Games at the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom in Birmingham, Alabama.
“It’s a hill-hill match but I just won my first match. Thank you God for giving me strength every game,” the 38-year-old Biado, the reigning US 9-Ball Open champion, posted on his official Instagram account.
Biado will face Austria’s Albin Ouschan, an 11-8 winner over Carl Joseph Aden of South Africa also in the round of 16, in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
“We let Carlo to stay focused. It’s still a long way to go,” Gregorio said.
The Philippines has so far won one gold medal—its second in the games after Biado’s 9-ball mint in Wroclaw 2017—courtesy of Junna Tsukii in women’s kumite of karate.
Rubilen Amit, a many-time world champion, sees action on Friday against Germany’s Pia Filler in the round of 16 of women’s 9-ball.
