President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. issued on Tuesday Proclamation No. 2 declaring July 9 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha, the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice.
“I, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Saturday, 9 July 2022, a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid’l Adha,” Marcos said in his one-page issuance.
He urged those who will celebrate the event amid the pandemic to comply with minimum health standards.
The proclamation based from the recommendation of National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).
The proclamation is in compliance with Republic Act (RA) No. 9849 declaring the 10th Day Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar, Eid’l Adha a national holiday with a movable date.
Eid’l Adha is celebrated by Muslim worldwide through prayers and by slaughtering sacrificed animals and sharing its meat to relatives, friends, neighbor, and the needy. It is one of the greatest feast of Islam aside from Eid’l Fitr.
