At no other point in time in recent human history had the medical and health frontliners been subjected to the trauma of multiple deaths on a daily basis as in this COVID-19 pandemic. The inability to comfort or touch patients physically, the loss of co-workers or of their own families also added burden and distress to the frontliners.
It was, indeed, nearly two years of relentless battling against the virus, of caring for patients, and risking their own health and well-being and even their lives.
Moving on to the new normal and with the bright hope for an end of the health crisis, ManilaMed aptly launched its own tribute to its doctors, healthcare workers, support services, and management through the ManilaMed Champions of Care campaign.
The campaign took off on April 18, 2022 with the launch of ManilaMed Champions of Care Gallery at the historic Plaza Rueda with no less than ManilaMed President Jose Santiago A. de la Cruz, Jr. spearheading the event.
In his opening remarks during the launch, De la Cruz communicated the ManilaMed Champions of Care Gallery is the hospital’s way of uniting and honoring Filipino doctors, healthcare workers, and frontliners who have selflessly sacrificed their lives and withstood many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, he said, the country’s resilience was tested to the highest level because it was a time when various private and public hospitals reached full-capacity, when doctors and healthcare workers sacrificed their health and dedicated their strength to help the nation heal.
Aside from Dela Cruz, the ManilaMed family came in full force, led by Chief Operating Officer Dr. Anthony Martin S. Dolor, together with the members of Management Committee, Clinical Chairmen and Chairwomen, doctors, healthcare workers, and support services personnel.
City Government Officials from Manila graced the unveiling event as well together with Engr. Gideon Navarro, from Parks Development Office-Manila, Corazon Tamayo of Department of Tourism, Culture, and Arts of Manila, and Estela B. Rebenito, Chairwoman of Barangay 676.
ManilaMed: Providing quality service through healthcare innovation since 1967
ManilaMed is one of the leading hospitals in the Philippines. Since its establishment in
1967, it has continuously provided quality service through healthcare innovation. In recent years before the pandemic, ManilaMed undertook a generous charitable initiative and major upgrades to ensure that it remains at the very forefront of healthcare in the Philippines for decades to come.
Empowered by the PASSION to care for and heal patients as guided by the LEGACY of its notable ancestors, ManilaMed endures as one of the private healthcare institutions in the Metro that provides dedicated SERVICE to its patients. As a result, the institution has captured the loyalty of families and communities from the National Capital Region and its neighboring cities.
For years, Plaza Rueda has witnessed numerous events and projects, particularly medical missions and wellness talks sponsored by ManilaMed. The Plaza itself received several renovations sponsored by the hospital. Plaza Rueda, which is named after Spanish Poet Salvador Rueda who visited the Philippines in 1915, was merely an open space and was dark at night. The final renovation in 2019 gave the park its own lights, and also enclosed the trees in plant boxes, where visitors can sit. The park was also surrounded by a metal fence to separate it from the sidewalk.
With the Champions of Care Gallery, ManilaMed also hopes to inspire the Mañilenos to visit Plaza Rueda where they can learn more about the people who are part of ManilaMed’s dedicated team of medical professionals and staff.
Recognizing all our modern-day heroes
From April to May 2022, ManilaMed will be featuring “Women of Healing and Hope”, showcasing various female doctors, healthcare workers, and support services staff and their stories of hope and healing via the Champions of Care Gallery.
This timely project aligns the doctors and healthcare workers’ narratives with ManilaMed’s upcoming 55th Anniversary in August with the theme: Passion, Legacy, and Service.
This also boosts the morale of all hospital/healthcare workers from the private and public sector.
Celebrate and recognize all our modern-day heroes from the healthcare industry by visiting Plaza Rueda located at United Nations Avenue, corner Taft Avenue, Paco, Manila. Learn and be inspired from the personal stories and life lessons of ManilaMed healthcare frontliners.
