Four-piece Baquio-based rock band Divina launched their new single titled “Freedom” under Deadstring Records and is available on all music streaming platforms.
Divina is an amalgam of former members of Even and 2nd Squad. Vocalist Dyanne Licudine-Montenegro and drummer Jerich Mojica used to perform with the former while bassist Paul Guieb and guitarist Neil Ian Briones were with the latter.
As Divina, they are an explosive collective of seasoned veterans and you can hear it on “Freedom.”
The new single is like an answer or continuation of their first single, “Exist.”
“Exist” is a reminder for people why were are here while “Freedom” is reminder about making good use of the opportunities that freedom afforded to us.
A part of the song’s inspiration comes from the band’s lead vocalist. According to Dyanne Joyce, the song is also about her experience as a teacher. I was asked to teach a subject about existentialism. Doon ko kinuha ang philosophical stuff na tinuturo ko sa students and I put in a song.”
It also pertains to during this time of Covid-19 and an individual’s struggle with the period’s uncertainties and coping.
“Despite overwhelming odds and one must not give up,” added Dyanne.
Pointed out Briones. “As the song lyrics iterates ‘Hope comes from Freedom. Choice is a creative act.’”
The band that was formed as a creative outlet for the members of Divina around August of 2021.
“To be honest, the goal is simply to be able to write music again and to revisit and hopefully feel that same joy again very much like what we felt when we first experienced it many, many years ago,” Dyanne revealed, when asked about the ultimate goal is behind the rise of Divina… “This band is simply about taking everything we’ve learned and valued the most in the past, and using all of that to come up with something creatively exciting once again, and hopefully audiences can take something away from this new experience; truly, it’s all that matters right now.”
“We hope that music fans will love ‘Freedom’ as well as our music that will help kick the Covid blues away.”
