Tarlac Rep. Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco has died at 58, his wife China Jocson-Cojuangco confirmed on Tuesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you that my husband, Claudia and Jaime’s father, Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco, has passed away,” Jocson-Cojuangco wrote in a Facebook post. No other details were provided as press of time.
The lawmaker was the youngest son of late businessman Danding Cojuangco.
On October 26, 2021, Rep. Cojuangco suffered an aneurysm in the middle of a circuit race.
Meanwhile, lawmakers in the House of Representatives are mourning the death of Conjuanco.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear colleague, Tarlac 1st District Rep. Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco,” Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said in a statement.
“The House of Representatives mourns the loss of one of its eminent political party leaders. His untimely demise leaves a void in the Nationalist People’s Coalition and the entire House supermajority coalition. We have lost a leader and a friend,” he added. “May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.”
House Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts Chairman Christopher De Venecia said Cojuangco was a staunch supporter of the creatives sector and of sectors immediately impacted by economic growth.
“Cong. Charlie and I had our respective bills on creatives so we saw eye-to-eye on what we needed to do. He was like a big brother to me. I am certain he will be cheering for us from the hereafter as HB 10107 is ratified in May and signed into law in June,” he said.
Conjuangco was one of the authors of the bill providing for the promotion and development of the Philippine creative industries.
