LEGAZPI CITY—A total of 694 newly registered elderlies at the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) here received P1,500 each as financial assistance over the weekend as part of the support of the city government to this vulnerable sector during the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mayor Noel E. Rosal said the elderly beneficiaries included those coming from the villages of Buyuan, Matanag, Bonga, Mabinit, Pawa, Dita, San Juaquin, Arimbay, Bagong Abre, Bigaa, Padang, all in the northern portion of this city.
“The other recipients came from the southern section, the villages of Puro, Lamba, Dapdap, Taysan, Maslog, Estanza including Ilawod West and EM’s both from Albay District,” Rosal added.
The mayor said the payout materialized after the city council allocated P3 million for the cash assistance for senior citizens.
He said the remaining 1,332 elderly beneficiaries are expected to receive their financial aid anytime this week.
Rosal also said the elderlies were those registered with the OSCA from August 2 to October 1 this year.
He said the city government had also distributed financial assistance to 18,500 senior citizens last August.
The city council earlier approved Resolution No. 15-0290-2021 allocating cash assistance for the OSCA members and tricycle drivers.
“We want to commend the City Council for passing such a resolution that allowed the handing of cash assistance to these sectors of our society,” Rosal said. PNA
