The pandemic has hit most businesses, even driving restaurants, bars, and other “non-essential” businesses to closure. People turned to online sellers and quick deliveries via motorcycle couriers. Exposure to crowded places like malls, wet markets, and groceries had to be extremely regulated, if not avoided. Working from home has been the preferred set-up, and children are now watching their teachers on screens. So many things have changed, including the way we eat, and the way we prepare our food.
That’s exactly how Fat Kid Kitchen Solutions Inc., helmed by young entrepreneur Kelzo del Rosario, came up with the idea of making our favorite Filipino meals available within minutes, without having to leave the comforts of our homes.
Ulam Mama, the company’s first brand, is a frozen food line with 23 different variants (and counting) to choose from. These frozen food packs come in 100g, and 120g blast-frozen vacuum-sealed packs, prepared in FDA-approved kitchens. The food packs are ready to heat and eat in just 3-5 minutes, and contain no artificial extenders or preservatives. You can choose from a variety of chicken, pork, beef, and vegetable dishes which you can keep in the freezer for up to 3 to 6 months.
They first made their brand known by catering to corporate events, beginning late last year. Not long after, they launched Ulam Mama’s Bizkarte Program, which empowers aspiring online entrepreneurs to start their very own food business. With a start-up investment of as low as P2,000 – you can already start selling frozen packs or even launch your own rice bowl business!
Ulam Mama has made a steady customer following, mainly comprised of people who stock up on essential food items, to minimize exposure outside their homes. Now, they are set to open their first kiosk at the SM North EDSA Main Building Supermarket. We are excited to see how this brand will grow and continue to serve tasty, affordable comfort food not only here in the Philippines, but also abroad – for our Kababayans who miss home, to enjoy.
