THE Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday logged 3,190 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of 4 p.m., bringing the total number in the country to 322,497.
Of the 3,190 newly reported cases, 2,709 (85 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days (September 21-October 4, 2020).
The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were National Capital Region with 994 or 37 percent, Region 4A (579 or 21 percent), and Region 3 (305 or 11 percent).
A total of 18,065 recoveries were also reported through the time-based recovery strategy dubbed “Oplan Recovery”. This brings the total number of recoveries to 273,079.
There were 100 deaths, of which 16 occurred in October (16 percent), 57 in September (57 percent), 11 in August (11 percent), 12 in July (12 percent) 3 in June (3 percent) and 1 in May (1 percent).
Twenty-three duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 13 recovered cases and two deaths have been removed.
Moreover, 19 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
“These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.
Fifteen labs were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System on October 3.
The DOH on Friday had shrugged off reports that the Philippines’s total number of cases had caused it to climb to rank 20 in the global tally. Beyond the total, which is cumulative since the pademic began, the thing to watch out for is the number of active cases; as well as the number of recoveries and the consistently low death rate, compared to many countries, officials said.
