THE provincial government of Sorsogon cleared former University of Santo Tomas (UST) head coach Aldin Ayo of any wrongdoing when he brought the Growling Tigers for training in his native Barangay Capuy in Sorsogon City amid strict health and safety protocols because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is to certify that based on the Sorsogon City Police Station Memorandum dated September 23, 2020 (Annex A) the Office of the Governor is in consonance with said Memoradum’s findings considering that there is a clear exhibition of legitimate activities undertaken by former UST Head Coach Aldin V. Ayo,” a document given to the BusinessMirror on Wednesday evening said.
“That the action performed by former coach Aldin Ayo is in accordance with the health protocols and guidelines as per existing Inter Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease and that there was no UST sanctioned team basketball training conducted in the domicile of Mr. Aldin V. Ayo or was there any prohibited basketball activities conducted by his guests outside of his residence within the jurisdiction of the Province of Sorsogon,” the document added.
The document, signed by Governor Francis Escudero and dated September 28, 2020, furthered: “ … and that Mr. Aldin V. Ayo is not liable for violation of any health protocol pursuant EID-IATF guidelines and local executive orders in the Province of Sorsogon.”
Ayo’s wife, Minajoy Canlas, confirmed the document to BusinessMirror.
“That’s confirmed,” was Canlas’s brief reply via Messenger to BusinessMirror.
Senior Master Sergeant Jungie Vito prepared the Sorsogon Sorsogon City Police Station Memorandum, with Investigation Officer Major Pedro Jimenez verifying the report and Chief of Police Lt. Col. Benito Dipad Jr. concurring.
That controversial activity, infamously called Sorsogon City Bubble, resulted to the resignation and key players from the UST men’s basketball team.
