The Department of Health (DOH) said it had identified 1,245 clusters of Covid cases in the Philippines as total infections in the country rose to 164,474 on Monday.
Through the DOH’s event-based Surveillance and Response as of August 16, , Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that cases of clustering were observed in the following:
- community with 1,054 or 84.7 percent
- hospital/ health facility: 68 (5.5 percent)
- jail/ prison: 30 (2.4 percent)
- other settings: 93 (7.5 percent).
The regions with highest number of areas with clustering were found in the National. Apital Region (NCR) , Region 4A, Region 7, and Region 3.
- NCR: 411(33 percent)
– 333 communities – 34 hospitals/health facilities – 12 jails/prison – 32 other settings
- Region 4A: 216 (17 percent)
– 198 communities – 5 hospitals/health facilities – 3 jails/prison – 10 other settings
- Region 7: 176 (14 percent)
– 162 communities – 3 hospitals/health facilities – 7 jails/prison – 4 other settings
- Region 3: 68 (5 percent)
– 61 communities – 2 hospitals/health facilities – 3 jails/prison – 2 other settings
Covid cases
As of 4 p.m. of August 17, the DOH logged a total of 3,314 confirmed based on the total tests done by 91 out of 105 current operational labs.
There were DOH 237 recoveries reported.This brings the total number of recoveries to 112,759.
Eighteen deaths were recorded. The death toll stood at 2, 681.
Of the 3,314 reported cases today, 2,854 (86 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days (August 4 – 17, 2020).
The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (1,656 or 58 percent), Region 4A (672 or 24 percent) and Region 3 (131 or 5 percent).
Of the 18 deaths, 4 (22 percent) occured in August, 12 (67 percent) in July, and 2 (11 percent) in June. Deaths were from Region 4A (5 or 28 percent), Region 7 (4 or 22 percent), NCR (4 or 22 percent), Region 3 (3 or 17 percent), Region 10 (1 or 6 percent) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (1 or 6 percent).
