LETRAN foiled Arellano University, 97-84, on Thursday to keep its playoffs hopes alive in the second round eliminations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 95 seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Knights teetered in the first two quarters but got into their groove with a 14-0 run to lead by as many as 13 points, 56-69, midway third quarter.
The Knights held on the rest of the way to notch their 10th win in 16 games while sending the Chiefs down to a 4-12 won-lost card.
The Knights capitalized on the Chiefs’ erratic start for an early 7-0 lead but the boys from Legarda kept the game close at 32-20.
The game was close in practically the next two quarters until the Knights went on a tear to move comfortably ahead at 80-66 in the third period.
Bonbon Batiller tallied 18 points, four assists and two rebounds, and Larry Muyang and Jeo Ambohot chipped in 15 points, Allen Mina made 12 points, and Jerrick Balanza and Fran Yu each had 11 points for Letran.
