The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) has extended assistance to the Filipino fishermen who were injured after a bridge collapsed in Taiwan, Tuesday.
“POLO officials visited the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) at the hospital, assessed their condition and extended immediate assistance,” said DOLE Information and Public Service Director Rolly M. Francia.
He said the POLO also coordinated with said fishermen’s respective principals, who could provide them additional aid.
The five fishermen were on board their fishing boat after it was damaged by debris from a collapsed bridge in Nanfang-ao, Yilan County, Taiwan.
Francia said three of the said fishermen–Julio S. Gimawa, Jason N. Villaruel, and Allan H. Alcansano–only suffered minor injuries.
The two other fishermen, who are still undergoing treatment at the Rong min Hospital in Taiwan are John Vicente Royo and June B. Flores.
