FOR the third time in a row this month, qualified workers will be entitled to an additional holiday pay this week with the celebration of the National Heroes Day on Monday.
During the regular holiday, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III reminded employers that their employees who will report for duty should get twice their daily wage for that day.
In case of overtime, he said, they should get another 30 percent of their hourly rate on the said day.
Lastly, the labor chief said these workers must get another 30 percent of their holiday daily wage if the celebration coincides with their rest day.
Bello, however, noted that employees who opt to spend the regular holiday on vacation must still get 100 percent of their daily wage.
National Heroes Day, which is held every August 26, aims to honor the contribution of the country’s national heroes.
On August 12 and 21, DOLE also issued special holiday pay rules for the commemoration of the Muslim celebration of Eid’l Adha and Ninoy Aquino Day, respectively.
