The slowdown in global trade will not dampen the Philippine online job market, according to online career and recruitment resource firm Monster.com.
In a news statement issued on Tuesday, Monster.com said the Monster Employment Index (MEI) data showed online hiring in the country saw a growth of 16 percent in June.
Data showed that all 12 industries monitored by the index posted positive growth and surpassed the year-ago level.
“Online hiring demand in the Philippines has been reflecting strong positive growth for many months now, and this is likely to stay the same in the near future, despite a predicted economic slowdown,” the statement read.
“While a slowdown in global trade has hit the Filipino economy and businesses, higher household consumption and slowing inflation continue to propel certain sectors, such as consumer goods—which has been driving the nation’s online recruitment demand for three consecutive months now,” it added.
Based on the MEI, the consumer goods/fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry posted the highest annual growth of 29 percent in June. This was the third consecutive month that the industry’s growth outpaced others monitored in the index.
The FMCG sector also fared well on a short-term basis, up by 2 percent and 13 percent, respectively, over a three-month and six-month period.
The advertising industry saw a 23-percent year-on-year growth for the month of June 2019, up from last month’s 20-percent growth. The IT/telecom sector also continued to rank among the top hiring sectors, with a 21-percent YOY growth for the month.
In terms of occupation, Monster.com said human resource and administration professionals led the growth with a 34-percent YOY increase since last June. This is the highest growth for this occupation since December 2018.
Online recruitment demand for finance and accounts, as well as marketing and communication, saw robust growth in June, up by 25 percent and 24 percent YOY, respectively.
Data showed hospitality and travel professionals charted a 16-percent growth between June 2018 and 2019. While this was a slowdown from the 23-percent growth posted in May, Monster.com said “it continues to reflect high demand for the occupation role in the Filipino job market.”
The MEI is a gauge of online job posting activity compiled monthly by Monster.com. It records the industries and occupations that show the highest and lowest growth in local recruitment activity.
It is based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career web sites and online job listings across the Philippines.
