THE Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Thursday announced the opening for application and recommendation of posts in the Supreme Court that will be soon vacated by Associate Justices Francis Jardeleza and Antonio Carpio.
Jardeleza is set to reach his compulsory retirement on September 26, 2019, while Carpio is set to retire on October 26, 2019.
The application and nomination for the said posts will be accepted by the JBC until July 30, 2019.
“Interested applicants must submit two complete sets of application or recommendation with conforme, together with all the documentary requirements to the JBC…,” the announcement read.
Among the requirements needed to be submitted by the applicants are sworn Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALNs) for the past 10 years, or from 2009 to 2018, for those who are currently in government service.
For those who are currently employed in the private sector but were in government service within the past 10 years, all SALNs for those years in government service are required to be submitted to the JBC.
Likewise, applicants are required to submit certification issued by banks and other institutions within the application period regarding local or foreign deposits and other investments under the applicant’s name or held jointly with applicant’s spouse, children and other persons or entities.
Jardeleza served as Solicitor General from February 2012 until his appointment as the 173rd Associate Justice of the SC on August 20, 2014.
He also served as Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
On the other hand, prior to his appointment to the SC, Carpio served as a member of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines from 1993 to 1998.
In 2001, at the age of 52, he was one of the youngest appointees as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Shortly after his appointment, he launched the Supreme Court e-library, the first full-text searchable and retrievable online law library in the Philippines and among the first in Asia.
The JBC is a constitutional body tasked to screen nominees and submit a shortlist of nominees to the President for vacancies in the judiciary and the Office of the Ombudsman.
