PhilSeven Foundation Inc. (PFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Philippine Seven Corp. (7-Eleven Philippines) is putting up another “Everyday Play” community playground, this time in the province of Iloilo.
This is according to 7-Eleven Philippines Operations Director and PFI Vice Chairman Liwayway Fernandez who said that the project is in cooperation with the local government of Lambunao and Angat Buhay Initiative. The public play area is in Barangay Daanbanwa, Lambunao, Iloilo City.
“This is the seventh project of the community playground and the first one in Visayas” said Fernandez. “Our goal is to bring back real-time play among children in different parts of the country. PFI believes that a venue for real play is still very important in this digital age,” she added.
The Municipality of Lambunao
was selected because of its initiative of building play gardens in adjacent
schools and communities, which is aligned with the purpose and advocacy of
PFI’s Everyday Play, “During the site and project development, community
participation through volunteerism was very evident. The
project went on smoothly. Our projects are aligned. The support of the
community was overwhelming. Several schools participated, with volunteer
students and teachers helping out during the construction of the playground,”
Fernandez said.
The Everyday Play project is one of PFI’s long-running campaigns, which is currently the foundation’s core focus advocacies that began in 2015. To date, there are already seven 7-Eleven Everyday Play community playgrounds in the country located in Dasmariñas, Cavite; Pateros; Santa Rosa, Laguna; Caloocan City; San Fernando, Pampanga; Malolos City; and Iloilo City. PFI’s other community projects in several parts of the country include, among others, playground construction, mobile school donation, classroom donation, feeding programs, medical missions and disaster/relief operations.
“PFI helps advocate that play is a valuable activity for kids in the development of their physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills. Through the Everyday Play community playground, we want kids to have a happy childhood, which is important in bringing out a positive attitude in them when they become adults,” Fernandez said.
