THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to file charges against a candidate who allegedly slapped one of its election officers in Tarlac.
In a post in her Twitter account, Comelec Commissioner Rowena V. Guanzon said they will be suing Marty Franz Torralba, a candidate for Board Member in Camiling, Tarlac, for supposedly hurting Tarlac Election Officer Teddy Mariano for taking down illegal campaign posters on April 6, 2019.
“We will pursue cases against Torralba. I will have you jailed,” Guanzon said.
The poll official said they will also have Torralba, whom Guanzon claimed is a lawyer, disbarred for the incident.
Guanzon said Torralba is currently detained by authorities in Tarlac.
The Comelec Employees’ Union (Comelec-EU) also condemned Torralba’s action and demanded that he immediately be investigated.
“We call on the Comelec to make sure that candidate Toralba be made accountable for this barefaced act of aggression against an election worker who is merely doing his duty of enforcing campaign rules in his jurisdiction,” Comelec-EU said in a statement.
