Broadcast giant GMA Network Inc. (GMA) received honors from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF) at the recently concluded 50th Box Office Entertainment Awards held at Star Theater, Pasay City.
Among the big GMA winners were Marian Rivera, who received the Bert Marcelo Lifetime Achievement Award; Stories for the Soul host and Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who took home the Global Achievement by a Filipino Award; and Superstar Nora Aunor, who received the Corazon Samaniego Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dingdong Dantes was hailed as one of the Phenomenal Stars of Philippine Cinema. Dennis Trillo brought home the coveted Film Actor of the Year award. Versatile actress Glaiza de Castro won the TV Actress of the Year (Daytime Drama) award for the afternoon soap Contessa, while the multitalented Ken Chan was hailed as the TV Actor of the Year (Daytime Drama) for his outstanding performance in the well-loved drama series My Special Tatay.
The lead stars of GMA’s newest epic drama series Sahaya, Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix, received the Most Popular Loveteam for Television award. Award-winning comedienne and Dear Uge host Eugene Domingo took home the Comedy Actress for Television plum, while veteran actress and Pepito Manaloto star Nova Villa bagged the Movie Supporting Actress of the Year award.
Queen of Philippine Movies and Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko’s host Gloria Romero received the Golden Jury Award for All Time Favorite Actress.
Fast-rising actress Jo Berry marked a milestone in her career by winning the Most Promising Female Star for Television award for the hit prime-time soap Onanay. Inagaw na Bituin lead star Kyline Alcantara won the Promising Female Concert Performer of the Year award, while rap group Ex Battalion went home with the Most Popular Recording/Performing Group award.
Eat Bulaga hosts also took home awards. Seasoned actor and TV host Vic Sotto was hailed as one of the Box Office Kings, while Maine Mendoza was recognized as the Box Office Queen. Joining them were Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Paolo Ballesteros who were hailed as Comedy Actors of the Year for Movies, and Baeby Baste who received the Most Popular Male Child Performer award.
Receiving the Box Office Entertainment Awards nod as well were various GMA programs. Multiawarded magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho brought home the Popular TV Program (News and Public Affairs) recognition. Top-rating inspirational drama series My Special Tatay was chosen as this year’s Popular TV Program (Daytime Drama), while breakthrough comedy-variety noontime show Sunday Pinasaya received the Popular TV Program (Musical Variety/Noontime/Primetime) prize.
