If you have dry, sensitive skin, chances are you have used or are currently using Cetaphil cleanser and lotion. I used to go for a different brand but switched to Cetaphil around four years ago.
I use Cetaphil cleanser mostly on my face but sometimes on my body, which is drier.
I’m glad that Cetaphil recently launched Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash, which was created for babies, children and adults. Three out of 4 members of my family have very dry skin and/or skin asthma, so we need something like this.
Most days, we use only a liquid cleanser. Bar soap is only for days when we need very thorough cleansing.
“Cleansing is actually the most damaging process of skin care because it can strip skin of moisture. Most surfactants, which are in soaps and cleansers, cannot differentiate between dirt and grime and the skin’s natural oils,” said dermatologist Dr. Mara Padilla Evangelista Huber.
This isn’t surprising. You know that squeaky clean feeling we love after washing our faces and/or showering? That, apparently, is not a good thing.
Squeaky clean, according to Huber, means you’ve over-stripped your skin during the cleansing process.
So what should one look for in a good body wash?
“Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash is fragrance-free and has low pH, panthenol, aloe vera and gentle surfactants. These are the five factors you should look for in a body wash,” said Galderma Philippines Consumer Business Unit Head Jade Silva-Netto Ponoc.
The Philippines is actually Cetaphil’s second biggest market after the United States, said Ponoc. This is a fact that isn’t surprising because so many dermatologists recommend Cetaphil to patients with dry, sensitive skin.
To launch Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash, Galderma Philippines hosted a staycation for some of Manila’s most beautiful faces, including influencers and celebrities like Janina Manipol, Nicole Hernandez, Nicole Andersson, Camille Co, Patty Laurel-Filart and Jigs Mayuga.
They got to try the new body wash after a workout at Kerry Sports Manila and a short talk by Huber.
Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash is the perfect way to complete your health routine. Its effective yet gentle formulas are clinically proven to strengthen and protect even the most sensitive skin.
The Big 5 essential factors mentioned previously are crucial in keeping skin healthy, supple and moisturized. They also address the problems related to dry and sensitive skin, such as itching and redness.
LOW pH
The skin’s pH is acidic and many of the biochemical reactions occurring in the skin only work within a narrow pH range. Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash has a pH of 5 so it helps the skin repair itself.
FRAGRANCE-FREE
To avoid the possibility of irritation or allergies to fragrance mix, it is best to use a fragrance-free cleanser. Fragrance in products can irritate skin. If your skin is dry and/or sensitive, look for cleansers that are fragrance-free or hypoallergenic.
PANTHENOL
Panthenol is a provitamin of vitamin B5. It helps increase skin hydration and improves the barrier of the skin. Cetaphil Ultra Gentle Body Wash has panthenol so your skin stays healthy and moisturized.
ALOE VERA
Cetaphil’s body wash helps improve skin’s moisture levels because it has humectants like aloe vera. Cleansers with moisturizing ingredients help prevent the skin from being stripped of essential factors.
GENTLE SURFACTANTS
The brand’s latest body wash uses a mixture of surfactants (sodium laureth sufate, or SLES, in combination with cocamidopropyl betaine, among others). Research shows that mixtures of surfactants, compared to a single surfactant, make for gentle cleansers.
