Decking banisters and halls with garlands, putting up sparkly lights, and hanging festive stockings are traditions that mark the beginning of the holiday season in our homes. Christmas decorations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, can fill the home with that unexplainable magic in the air that comes with the season.
For homemakers, design-lovers, and art enthusiasts, Christmas decorating is one of the many joys of the season. It’s that special time of the year when they can play with different motifs and pieces that will give their homes that fresh holiday atmosphere.
This holiday season, Casa de Memoria is offering elegant home pieces that will complete your dream Christmas abode.
Christmas with elegant classics
Rich red ribbons, carefully-placed garlands and boughs of evergreen, and stylish gold accents – these are the decorations of a classic Christmas home. These traditional Christmas spaces are cozy yet sophisticated.
Casa de Memoria’s European furniture best fit this kind of motif like the 19th century Napoleon III Secretaire. This ornate writing table made with dark wood and Ormolu decorations will be best complimented with a vase of Poinsettias and a simple decorative candle.
Decorators can also place a bowl of ceramic Christmas ornaments on top of a stunning 19th century Napoleon III Side Table topped with white marble. The antique French side table is decorated with tortoiseshell-and-brass marquetry and has ormolu mounts and fluted columns.
Spreading the cheer with chinoiserie
A unique design trend for holiday homes is the white and blue chinoiserie theme. The white and blue Chinese ceramics make for a cool seasonal color palette and its intricate details add a touch of delicacy to the home.
During the Christmas season, there are feasts and gatherings galore and with Casa de Memoria’s Qianlong Period style porcelain plates and platters, hosts can wow with their luxe table spreads. The 18th century blue and white platters have serpentine edges and are ornamented with peonies in reserves while the 18th century blue and white plates display peonies, chrysanthemums, and bamboos.
Getting festive the Filipino way
Celebrate a truly Pinoy Christmas with uniquely Filipino decorations. Homeowners can bring out more contemporary variation of the bright Christmas lantern with mini woven parols or seashell parols. Some can also opt for bows of native woven fabrics instead of the usual red ribbons and spruce up the space with rattan baskets filled with Christmas ornaments.
Capiz accents also add some extra style to any home. During Christmas, some homes make use of capiz lights and parols.
Casa de Memoria offers an understated beauty befitting the traditional Filipino motif with its 19th to 20th century oil painting on capiz, signed “M.Zaragoza, Manila” pointing to early Philippine master Miguel Zaragoza Aranquizna, a contemporary to 19th century celebrated artists Luna and Hidalgo, and a professor to Amorsolo at the U.P. School of Fine Arts.
The capiz painting is a highly rare piece by the esteemed painter which illustrates a rural scene with a harvester wearing salakot while feeding a dissatisfied dog against a green outdoor landscape with a Vermillion and emerald green sky.
These are just a few of the pieces that will be available for Casa de Memoria’s Holiday Auction on November 10 at 2pm at the Casa de Memoria Showroom, Jupiter Street, Makati City.
