ROUGHLY three-fourths of non-cabled homes in the metropolis are now tuning in to their favorite television shows via digital terrestrial television, dominated primarily by ABS-CBN Corp.’s set-top boxes.
Citing data from Kantar Media, the Lopez-led multimedia conglomerate said in a statement 71.6 percent of non-cabled homes in Metro Manila were using TVplus set-top boxes in end-August, a 16.6-point increase from 55 percent the year prior.
In the same comparative periods, the penetration rate of the conglomerate’s set-top boxes also rose by 20.7 point to 64.7 percent, from 44 percent in Mega Manila, while the Metro’s suburbs posted a 24-percent increase to 57 percent from 33 percent.
“The continuous migration of viewers from analog to digital shows their eagerness to enjoy the life-changing benefits of ABS-CBN TV plus that include clear TV viewing, crisp sound, more exclusive channels and an affordable pay-per-view service with no monthly fees,” the statement read.
Since its launch in 2015, ABS-CBN has so far sold 6.1 million set-top boxes to date. The government has mandated all broadcasting companies to migrate to digital TV before 2023.
Currently, the company’s TV plus covers the following areas: Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod and Davao.
