THE Asean Culture House in Busan, South Korea, celebrated its first anniversary with a special exhibit, Colors of Asia, Revisited: The Case of Asean and Korea, and will be open to the public until September 2.
The expo showcases the creations of Philippine haute couture designer Renee Salud and Korean fashion designer Lee Jean Youn. Attires from the Asean region and Korea are displayed as “poems” composed of “lights and colors,” inspiring “multilayered interpretations and sentiments related to the history of costumes and textiles.”
Ambassador of the Philippines to South Korea Raul S. Hernandez was the guest speaker at the opening ceremony.
In his remarks, Hernandez declared that the exhibit would show different cultures meshing together and turning into something beautiful and remarkable.
He added that culture could teach everyone that there is harmony in diversity.
Salud’s haute couture creations made of fabrics donated by Asean countries and the Republic of Korea, as well as Lee’s designs reinterpreting the beauty and sentiments of Korean traditions with a contemporary touch, both contribute to the broadening of cultural horizons beyond costumes.
The exhibit is hosted by the Korea Foundation and Asean Culture House, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, as well as the Philippine Embassy in Korea.
